This adventure
has it all: scenic and historic drive around the Hamakua Coast, splendid
native rainforest, lava tube cave visit with headlamps, remarkable
volcanic formation, and a splendid diversity of geography and climate.
Plus, if active we will always make an attempt to see the lava.

Our return path from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is via the off-limit
Saddle Road. Let us do the driving and the interpreting as you visit
the world's most active volcano.
ADVENTURE DESCRIPTION: From the Kona-Kohala Coast we travel by air-conditioned
van around the historic Hamakua Coast to Laupahoehoe Point where we
stop for a stunning view of the coastline and continental breakfast.
Departing from our breakfast stop, we travel through Hilo town and
make our way into Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. There, through detailed
geologic and natural history interpretation,

small walks, and driving, we explore and learn about the world’s most
active volcano. A picnic lunch is served en route during our adventure
through the park. Our return takes us over the remote Saddle Road
with a quick stop at Rainbow Falls and finally passes through astounding
scenery and native rainforest.
HIGHLIGHTS: Detailed natural & cultural history; naturalist led nature
walks; lava tube walk "where the tourists don’t go"; steam vents,
crater rim views and lava viewing when visible. ACTIVITY: Short walks
varying in length from .5 miles to 1.5 miles. Longer hikes may be
requested on exclusive tours.
DRESS CODE: Guests should bring a light jacket or sweatshirt, wear
sport shoes or walking shoes and wear or bring long pants.
CONDITIONS: Can be foggy, wet & cold.
RESTRICTIONS: Age: None. Physical: None.
INCLUDES: Daypacks, waterbottles, binoculars, walking sticks, warm
wear and raingear. Continental breakfast of fresh island fruit, 100%
pure Kona coffee, pastries, teas, juice and beverages. Lunch (deli
sandwich, chips, chocolate chip mac-nut cookie) and sodas and juice.
Sandwich choices are veggie, turkey, roast beef, pastrami, tuna, ham
& cheese or combo (ham, cheese, salami & turkey). |
